The first thing to be said about Uganda is that it is home to the highest concentration of primates on earth. It also has the highest mountain range in Africa and it is not difficult to understand why its terrain is deemed dramatic and beautiful on a Uganda safari. The capital, Kampala is a forward looking city with many modern buildings springing up. For visitors, it is well worth checking out the craft and curios markets and also the Kasubi tombs and museum, a UNESCO world heritage site and which houses four royal tombs. Most visitors on travelling to Uganda arrive at Entebbe on the shores of Lake Victoria. A well worth visit is to the Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary which houses over 40 orphaned chimpanzees. But back to the primates. Bwindi Forest, known as the Switzerland of Africa with its rich forests, contains half of the population of all mountain gorillas. A recent survey mentions 330 in total. However, the terrain here is steep and gorilla tracking can be reasonably strenuous. Lake Mburo National Park, known as the “Zebra Capital of Uganda” consists of grassland, wetland and woodland and is home to eland, klipspringer, buffalo, leopard, cranes and storks and of course, Zebra. The Queen Elizabeth National Park also allows gorilla tracking but one can also experience lions, hippos, buffalo, baboons and massive herds of elephants on Uganda safaris. A wonderful way to view animals here is to take a boat trip up the Kazinga Channel. Kibale Forest National Park is the place to go chimpanzee tracking which can be found here in their hundreds. Chimpanzee tracking is not as strenuous as gorilla tracking. The park is rich in other wildlife with an abundance of monkeys and baboons plus over 140 species of butterflies. Book one of our Uganda tours today and experience the mountain gorillas in their own habitat. It will be an experience that you will never forget on travel;ing to Uganda!!
