Sleeping accommodations and arrangements on the Kilimanjaro

What are sleeping arrangments on the Kilimanjaro?

On Mount Kilimanjaro, the sleeping arrangements during the climb typically involve staying in tents and huts at designated campsites along the various routes. The Marangu route is the only route that offers hut accommodations, while other routes offer tent accommodations. A warm sleeping bag is important, and a sleeping bag inner will add that extra bit of warmth. When you trek Mt. Kilimanjaro, you sleep in one of two places: a mountain hut or a tent. Most trekkers sleep in tented camps, as only the Marangu route offers hut accommodation. Everyone hiking one of the other seven Kilimanjaro routes must camp. Camping on the mountain is part of the scenery, and after a long day on the dunes, your tent will become your own private sanctuary to rest and recover.

Tents and Mattresses on Kilimanjaro

For all our climbs, we use Mountain Hardwear's four-period cycle tents, created specifically for mountain conditions. Build a shelterbelt. 3 people: we only ever have 2 people in a tent, leaving much room for your duffel bag containing all your gear. A chair at the front provides a non-disposed spot for you to stow muddy boots and gaiters. The tents are manufactured to withstand high winds, heavy rain, and snow cover, making them best suited for the environment on Kilimanjaro.

When you come camp, your tent will be already set up for you by our team, and your gear will be safely inside. The hotels are flat and not subject to any water conventions, and our team will make sure there are no sinking rocks underneath. You will be provided with a cycle foam mattress, though if you have a particular sleeping mat you prefer, you are welcome to bring it with you.

Sleeping bags on mount Kilimanjaro

It is important to have a good quality sleeping bag suitable for cold temperatures. A sleeping bag rated for temperatures below freezing (around -10°C/14°F or lower) is recommended. Additionally, a sleeping pad or inflatable mattress is crucial to provide insulation and cushioning between you and the ground.

Places to sleep in Kilimanjaro

When you trek Mount Kilimanjaro, you sleep in one of two places: a mountain hut or a tent. Most trekkers sleep in tented camps, as only the Marangu route offers huts. Everyone hiking one of the other seven Kilimanjaro routes must camp. Unluckily, things are made easier for you as your porters take all of the camping equipment and also set up camp for you. While you may be the dense sort who is happy to put on your own camping gear and make camp yourself, that is just not how Kilimanjaro works. Nobody can climb Kilimanjaro on their own. You must climb the mountain with a registered tour operator and be assisted by a mountain crew.

Everyone hiking one of the other seven Kilimanjaro routes must camp. We think camping is the more fun selection. Like many other tour operators, we at Follow Alice provide our climbers with high-bridge full tents that comfortably sleep two people. If you are joining us as a solo trekker, we can find someone for you to share a tent with, if you like. This is a great way to meet and bond with a friend who climbs. It is also a little more nauseating. If you also like a tent of your own, that is totally doable too. Camping is all part of the mountain experience, and there is no reason for it to be unfreedable. If you absolutely hate the idea of sleeping in a tent, the Marangu route provides dorm-style accommodation in huts.
