What happens if get injured or sick on Mount Kilimanjaro?

All climbers pay a rescue fee to the Kilimanjaro National Park (included in our package price). If you cannot continue the climb because you get injured or sick, the guides and porters will gladly assist you on the way down. There is no extra charge for coming down and being taken back to the lodge early, but we will not be able to refund you for the days you missed on the mountain. Moreover, we ask all travelers to purchase a special adventure travel insurance that covers any possible medical expenses and evacuation costs – just to be safe!

The insurance is very important in any tour safari because in case of any emergency occur during climbing mountain as you are client you will get better service depending on company you buy your insurance. The clients they should ensure to bring a travel insurance which covers Medical Evacuation. If the client does not have insurance, then they will have to pay the evacuation cost directly after they have recovered. Or you can ask them to contact a company who provides an insurance that covers such an altitude security. In case of evacuation the there are two main ways of being evacuated from the mountain. One is by car and the other is by helicopter.

If you have insurance covering to the altitude level of 6000m above sea level then the helicopter evacuation can be covered. Also, you should be aware that due to technical reasons the Helicopter cannot go up close to the mountain in higher altitudes. Thus, why there is a stretcher nick named Kilimanjaro taxi. It is a bed with one wheel which porters use to drop patients to lower altitudes where the means of transport will be waiting to take you to the hospital. Either, the rescue vehicle is available for all climbers.

Features of mountain rescue service

Time arrangement
Mountain rescue team should arrange the time effectively in order to provide service for casualties at required time. The mountain rescue is a work with high demand on time. Mountain disasters would expand with time goes by, and accordingly, the number of casualties increases. However once receiving disaster condition report, alarmed personnel have to quickly record the site of emergency and sent out dispatch command. Then the rescue team members have to start off immediately. The driver should take his responsibility to choose the simplest route to get where emergency occur. After the team arrives at emergency area then the leader needs to organize problem on location scout speedily, look for insiders to get to know how the disaster happened, where the survival people are, their status of survival, and give instructions for team. Then the team members should react according to their leader’s instruction.

Distance and location
As we know in mountain there are always no roads for vehicles to access the incident location. All in all, it depends on the type of route the disaster happens. it is hard and it takes a bit long time to get to rescue location. Mountain rescue team mostly should occur in areas where there is effective communication in order to recognize faster the location were disaster. If the rescue team locates in area where the communication is low it will take some time to get the conditions after receiving alarm.

The complex of station
In mountains areas are full of plants and the high steep t is not easy to locate the correct location of incident and get to know the condition of the targets in a timely manner. It is more difficult for rescue team to get there faster because there is no good place for airplane to landing. This makes mountain rescue operations even more difficult. At the same time, mountain incident sites are constantly accompanied with dangerous conditions such as explosions, rock falls, avalanches, landslides, earthquakes, floods, thunderstorms and so on.

Communication
If the communication would be low then it will be more difficult to communicate between the rescue team and survivors. Once rescue team members of public security fire protection force enter the mountains, they are trapped in a zone where radio waves cannot be received. This makes communication, contact, and assistance works more difficult. It is hard to know the level of injury and the status of illness of the people in trap. Due to poor communication at disaster location the it can be difficult to contact the trapped people rescued by rescue team. According to poor communication it leading to delayed emergency treatment. As the unable contact in time, injured people have to be taken from incident site to safe zone with stretcher. If it takes long, the condition of the injured may worsen.

Required Equipments

The rescue operation it needs high quality equipment used to rescue survivors on disaster area in order to make sure the operation is successful. Mountain rescue operations need high performance equipment. Normally mountain rescue team use some high-performance equipment such as helicopters, aircraft, fire ladder trucks, rescue vehicles, ski boats, detection instrument may sometimes be used in addition to ropes, and climbing devices.

Traction Equipments
But also these are very important equipment which include hoists, winches which are applied in operations of setting supporting point, hoist, placing rescue equipments and personnel, and rope horizontal stretching in situations when people or vehicles fall down cliffs, and people are trapped in mountainous area.

Ring Hook Equipments
These are including ascenders and descenders, protection devices, connection devices, rollers, safety hooks and so on. These equipments are mostly generally applied in climbing, descending, protection, and connection.
