From different local operators, they will with asking you to fill in the booking enquiry form. This will help them understand when you want to start the trek and the route you have chosen. As well as the entire planning of your trip. Once the dates, accommodation and the route have been chosen they will require a deposit in order to confirm the booking. You have to be careful on this as some can be con-men. We recommend you to fill in the form below so that we can assist with recommending the perfect tour operators for you.
The best tour operator is the one connected to the environment and communities of Tanzania especially at the foot of Kilimanjaro. The ones with the staff that not only work in Tanzania especially Kilimanjaro region, but as well raise their families there. This is because they will always be sensitive to the interaction with you as a climber and their world. They will take and assume full responsibility of their client’s safety and satisfactions very seriously.
Yes. There are tour operators that assist on such matters though they might charge service fees. After you are satisfied with the tour operator ask questions and choose the route. Get to be familiar with your itinerary. Make sure that the itinerary is well solved and people handling it are professionals including the guides and porters. After all is set and you are happy to can send a deposit to do the booking and confirm with the company that you will be going on the specific dates.
Book your flights then accommodation. It is best if you ask for recommendation from the tour operator. After doing this go ahead and book straight online for the accommodation. Arrange your pick up with the company. It is best to arrive a day before. In the next morning after arrival go through your mountain equipment with your guide and make a list of the equipment to be rented. Go to a rental store and get the missing gear. After that you will go to the gate for checking in. Ensure that you have your passport with you for it will be needed for verification at the gate.
In 1991, the park authorities made for all Kilimanjaro trekkers to arrange their trek up Kilimanjaro through a licensed agency. But also, they make it compulsory that all those embarking on a Kilimanjaro trek must be accompanied throughout their walk by a guide supplied by the agency. It was for a while still feasible to sneak in without paying when these laws were first introduced. Back then, many were the stories that arose about trekkers who managed to climb Kilimanjaro privately, tales that were often embellished with episodes of encounters with wild animals and even wilder park rangers.
As a climber don’t try to climb Kilimanjaro without a guide or without paying the proper fees. However, the authorities have tightened up security and clamped down on non-payees, so these tedious tales are now few in number. It’s very unlikely you’ll succeed and all you’re doing is freeloading indeed, stealing isn’t too strong a word from one of the poorest countries in the world. A Kilimanjaro trek is expensive. But the costs of maintaining a mountain that big are high. When you decide is which agency is going to get your business. Then the next thing is when you chose who is going to join you on your trip you should trust him as no any misunderstanding can occur between you and your agency.
Arusha and Moshi has the greatest number of tour and trekking operators, and the another area is marangu. When you are deciding to choose an agency the best place to look for an agency you have to choose agency from moshi or arusha but also in marangu but marangu has few agencies and only one that we recommend.
There are other agencies in Dar es Salaam and other Tanzanian towns are usually nothing but some of them are use middlemen for the operators in Moshi, Arusha or Marangu. Book a tour with an agency in Dar, for example, and the chances are you will still end up on a trek organized by an agency in Moshi or Arusha, only you would have paid more for it. However the first advantage of booking to arusha, moshi, and marangu you have chance of inspecting the equipment or testing your guide before you set start your trip. But if you book outside of Arusha or Moshi you have less chance of testing equipment or your guide before other continuous process.
The Arusha based companies tend to concentrate just as much on safaris in the Serengeti, Ngorongoro and Arusha National Park climbs up Meru as they do on treks up Kilimanjaro. Indeed, some just act as middlemen for one of the agencies in Moshi and don’t actually arrange Kilimanjaro treks themselves.
Moshi, on the other hand, the agencies tend to focus more on climbing Kilimanjaro than on safaris. Moshi based companies tend to be a little cheaper than those in Arusha, and most budget operators have their offices in Moshi. What’s more, Moshi is a more convenient place to shop for a trek, given its smaller size and the fact that many of the agents have offices in the town centre or within walking distance of it. Moshi also has the two biggest and best equipment rental stores for those who need to hire something for their trek.
Therefore, it would seem that you should base yourself in Moshi rather than Arusha if you are in the market for a budget trek. And it’s true that Moshi captures the lion’s share of the Kilimanjaro-trekking business, and some of the trekking companies in this town do a roaring trade. But beware there is still a fair bit of monkey business going on moshi too, and you do need to be on your guard against cheetah, lions, tiger and other stern foremost animals.
In the Tanzanian agencies section on p000 a capital ‘M’ in bold to denote when an agency is in Moshi and a capitalized, bold ‘A’ for those based in Arusha. If an agency is in the centre of town and thus easy to visit we give the address, too, and also try to mark them on the town and city maps for each place on p000 (Moshi) and p000 (Arusha). Before booking with any, read the general advice given on pp00-00 about dealing with the trekking companies. Too, that often agencies lower their costs by hitting the wages of the crew if you are going to book with one of these agencies, at the very least increase the amount in tips you pay your crew to compensate for their lower pay.
When you are choosing the agency from any place, town or city in Tanzania you should know that every agencies should have a TALA license therefore when you decide to shop for your trek, the golden rule when shopping around is stick to agencies that have a TALA license for trekking and check that license thoroughly to ensure it covers trekking. If they do not have a license, or the one they show you looks a bit suspect, or is out of date, take your business elsewhere. Although these agencies who does not have the TALA license their costs are normally cheap. Make sure your booking for registered agency if you are booking because of the cheap costs it will cost you.
Other advice includes
Decide what sort of trek you want, what route you wish to take, how long you wish to go for, and with how many people
Check agency’s website reviews and ask other travelers for their recommendations of a good agency
Make a direct contact with company you have chosen
Don’t choose only one agency and satisfy with him but consult other agencies first to compare how they provide their services to their customers. After you finish comparing then doing a simple research to all that company you choose then it will help you to get the best one
Read the section on p000 on what should be included in your trek package and learn it off by heart so you know what to ask the agency
Ask about the number of people in a group on your trek including the number of porters, guides, cooker you will be taking
Request to see their reviews which the previous clients have written their thoughts on the agency. Some agencies will have one in the internet age they are becoming less common, with people often emailing their comments instead and if they are any good they will show it to you with little or no prompting. Ask if you can speak with someone who’s climbed with them recently. All of this will help you to believe them.
The first responsibility of Agency Company is to make their customer satisfied in order to make them customized. So If you have any dietary requirements or other special needs, ask them if these will be a problem, if it will cost any more, and how exactly they propose to comply with your requirements. In case of food if you have allergy of some foods you should ask the agent what kind of meals you can expect to receive on the trek.
Every agency should be able to describe the trekking routes and their itineraries without any problem, so as a client you should ask to see a print-out of the day-to-day itinerary. And if you’re negotiating with an agency at the upper end of the market, you may even be able to get a preview of the daily menus. If you think you’ve found a good company, ask to see the equipment you will be using and make sure the tent is complete.
Check the sleeping arrangements, particularly if you’re not trekking with friends but have joined a group. Are you going to have a tent to yourself, or if you are going to be sharing with somebody you’ve never met before. If you are alone and on a budget, ask if it is possible to be put with a group, which should make things cheaper. If you are travelling alone and were quoted a very low price, you can expect to be put with another group.
